OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD OCCSince June we are involved in the work of children´s evangelism with the OCC. Alonzo is teh coordinator for the Cajamarca area. Sveral denomnatons are participating and our own will do evangelism in the city of Cajamarca in our neighborhood and in five village churches. Interdenominationally there area over 47 congregations participating and 4000 boxes will be distributed in the next couple of weeks duirng the closing of evangleistic activities.
SAN AUGUSTIN SOCIETY We have had 75 meetings with students form our State University of Cajamarca. We begun in August 2003 with only seven students and have grown now to 14, all of them Roman Catholics, so they say. They area mainly form the Law and Medical deprment, and only one form Sociology. We meet evey Sunday afternoon form 4p.m. till 8 p.m. and read the Bible, discuss the read pasasage and then we do little projects to publsih in our oficial bulltein called EPISTEME. We have publsihed number rwo by now and are working on number three. This is duistributed amiongst the students and teachers of the University. Issue number two was presented at the National Institute of Culture and was commented upon by the City´s Attorney. The turn out was good and very encouraged by its contents. Two of the students (Elbert and Liliana)are now attending our ocngregation and we pray and hope that more will join the church later on. San Agustin Society has been instrumental in allwing me to give several conferecnes and lectures at the Univesity and the socity has become well known and respected by many. Several of its memebrs are key players in reserach projects of their deparments, and I have been invietd to help the Law department as their consultant for their research project at teh proposal of teh memebers of teh society who particpate in it. Pray that the ma afford me the right opportunity to shre the gospel of Christ with all these people I meet.
CHURCH PLANTING BY A VILAGE CHURCHThe church of the Village of Hualqui (700 inhabitants) is serious about planting a new church in a neighboring village called LACAS. Next week they will begin to roof the small building were the new believers will meet. The Rev. Jimmy Turnes has specifically alocated a gift of meony for the roof, doors and windows of this new congregation. Thanks are due to him for this great support for teh establishing of a new congregation in the mountains of Cajamarca.This new church plant is a great development as Hualqui church has been tehre for over 80 years and this is her first baby church! Parised be the Lord for He has blessed our preaching on evangelism and missions in this village in the last four years. He surely is working amongst our brtehren in Hualqui.GOD´S FAITHFULNESS NEVER CEASES TO BEFour years ago we started a new church plant in a village called San Jose, six miles away from Cajamarca up in the mountains. About two years later the main leader (Alberto) failed in a way that it was terrible for him and it was also felt in the village. He left the village with his whole family (wife and three kids) trying, as he says, to flee from himslef and from God. But everythig he did went wrong. So he stopped fleeing and came back to teh village some months ago and begun to pray and reviwe his own life. He clearly felt the hand of God in all of this and repenetd form his sin and came to see pastor Alonzo last Tuesday. We prayed and welcomed him to the fellowship of the Lord´s body. Then we agreed that on Saturday 15 we will visit the village and hold worship again. He agreed to invite all his family and relatives. The hour conveened was 7 p.m. I took pastor Juan Santa Cruz (the oastor of Los Roales church) with me and arrived there little befiore 7 p.m. He was eagerly waiting for us and ass soon as we arrived we imvieted us in and fed us with the best a poor village family could offer. Thuis showing the Lord his appreciation for having received him again into His body. On that night eight adults, five chidlren and theree babies attended worship. After rading and preching from Revelation 2:1-7 he asked to participate and gave his testimony and pubically repented form all wrong he did against teh Lord and His people and proised to beahve himslef as a true Christian and to serve the Lord faithfully form now on. All of us rejoiced in receibing him and the other back into the Lord´s church. So the little congregation of San Jose has been revived by the Lord once agian and we praise him for ever, for He is good and faithful. The Satesbor team who visited us and worked so hard there three years ago should also rejoice with us. The prayers of all His saints have been heard!
OUR FAMILYEsther, Samuel and Analiz are all well by the Lord´s grace. Although two years ago esther was diagosed with diabetes, she las learned how to cope with it and to use teh righ diet to keep the gulcose at teh right rate. She and the ladies of the church are behind the work of child evangelism using the Samaritan Purse of teh OCC. She greatly values your prayers.Samuel is just recovering form a quick fever and shivering. He has gwon so much for Peruvian standards and has wone well in his term exams this week, he is now in his 9th grade.. At his 14 years for the first time told me that the Lord is really powerful beacuse as we prayed for recovery today he was up!Analiz is learning quite slowly but surely. Her dislexia is being overcome bit by bit. he is already in fifth grade elementary. She enjoys cooking with mom and likes to do things with her hands and is reading lots of fables.We are enjoying reading the Bible and Mortification of sin by JohnOwen in our family worship. It is great help for our lives spiritually and practically. Please, remember us in your family prayers!
